چکیده
Abstract Surface energy-balance models are commonly used in conjunction with satellite thermal imagery to estimate supraglacial debris thickness. Removing the need for local meteorological data thickness estimation workflow could improve versatility and spatiotemporal application of estimation. We evaluate use regional reanalysis derive two mountain glaciers using a surface model. Results forced ERA-5 agree AWS-derived estimates within 0.01 ± 0.05 m Miage Glacier, Italy, 0.02 Khumbu Nepal. were then changes over ~20-year period Glacier Haut d'Arolla, Switzerland. observe significant increases at terminus d'Arolla margins expanding cover all glaciers. While simulated was underestimated compared point measurements areas thick debris, our approach can reconstruct glacier-scale distribution its temporal evolution multiple decades. find thin susceptible high ablation rates, where current knowledge is limited.

Detecting Aquatic Vegetation Changes in Taihu Lake, China Using Multi-temporal Satellite Imagery
We have measured the water quality and bio-optical parameters of 94 samples from Taihu Lake in situ and/or in the lab between June 10-18, 2007. A transparencyassisted decision tree was developed to more accurately divide the aquatic vegetation zone into a floating vegetation-dominated zone and a submerged vegetation-dominated zone, whose respective present biomass retrieval models were easily d...
متن کاملEstimating Evapotranspiration from an Improved Two-Source Energy Balance Model Using ASTER Satellite Imagery
Reliably estimating the turbulent fluxes of latent and sensible heat at the Earth’s surface by remote sensing is important for research on the terrestrial hydrological cycle. This paper presents a practical approach for mapping surface energy fluxes using Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) images from an improved two-source energy balance (TSEB) model. The or...
متن کاملA Spatial-Temporal Modeling Approach to Reconstructing Land-Cover Change Trajectories from Multi-temporal Satellite Imagery
Temporal trajectories of land-cover change provide important information on landscape dynamics that are critical to our understanding of complex human–environment adaptive systems. The increasing availability of long time series of satellite images, especially the recent free release of multi-decadal Landsat satellite archive, presents a great opportunity to improve our ability to detect land-c...
متن کاملMonitoring Changes in Precipitation and Radiative Energy Using Satellite Data and Climate Models
Current changes in the tropical hydrological cycle, including water vapour and precipitation, are presented over the period 1979-2008 based on a diverse suite of observational datasets and atmosphere-only climate models. Models capture the observed variability in tropical moisture while reanalyses cannot. Observed variability in precipitation is highly dependent upon the satellite instruments e...
